ListenUP Background
ListenUP is a totally unique concept
in teaching resources. ListenUP is packed with hundreds of
time saving
materials, yet it is still very user-friendly, designed so
you can easily find what you want, when you want it. ListenUP has
been developed by young people, for young people.
It’s all
about helping you set your students on the pathway to success
and bounce back from adversity.

ListenUP addresses many of the issues young
people are facing at school and in society in general. In many
cases schools seem to lack time to address these issues
properly. The program offers well organised lesson plans etc.
making life easier for teachers. |

How It All
Started
ListenUP was created
in 2002 by a group of young mentors with a mission to provide
young people with the motivation and strategies to succeed
in whatever they set out to achieve.
ListenUP provides students with
the skills and strategies to:
Think optimistically;
Maintain hope in difficult situations;
Identify, develop, and achieve goals and outcomes;
Cope better with stress and manage everyday pressures;
Think rationally in challenging situations;
Seek help from trusted people when they are overwhelmed;
Build self esteem; and
Develop a greater sense of self efficacy.

All too often strategies recommended don’t
relate well to kids and are seen as ″pie in the sky″.
ListenUP content relates to actual problems kids are facing or
are likely to face in school. It gives realistic choices
within strategies to help kids. |
 |
 ListenUP initially
took the form of a
weekend workshop for young people called ‘PowerUP’, and then it was modified for the
school environment.
Feedback from teachers and school counsellors indicated that ListenUP
saved teachers time and included content that
was positively received in the classroom.
The
majority of students were engaged and interested in lessons and
discussions. Students reported using the skills learned to assist
in dealing with real life situations, while teachers reported many
noticeable changes over the short and long term listed below:
Short and Long
Term Results
Short term results experienced by schools using ListenUP include:

Greater self-esteem.
Long term results experienced by schools using ListenUP include:
Improved academic performance as a result of:
Increased levels of connectedness
Higher levels of mental health and emotional wellbeing
Higher levels of individual wellbeing
Better relationships between students;
Less behavioural problems;
Teaching staff experiencing higher levels of emotional wellbeing and
a reduction in stress (as
